Question How To Find Law Jobs In Australia??

Hi, I am new to the site

Me my Fiance and our 2 year old son are currently living in the UK but are looking to move to Australia as soon as possible. We want our son to have an outdoors lifestyle, and the good quality of life that everyone raves about in Aus.

Does anyone know of any good recruitment sites for Lawyers? My partner is a lawyer but we are struggling to find any good websites. We are looking for In-House or personal injury positions. Are there many personal injury law firms in Aus as im struggling to find much at all??

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

What's the plan to get a visa allowing you to live in Australia?

Unless you're Australian citizens and haven't told us.

Each State has a Law Institute so just google for it and have a look at the site or send them an email.

I know Mahlab is an employment firm in Victoria that specialises in Law, also Legal People.

Also look at the internet sites like Seek and Career.com.au should be able to help.

Here in Victoria they change the law affecting personal injury and work care some time ago so that prevented people from taking actions in some cases which of course reduced the work load in that area.

If you have not already done so, I think you would need to look into licencing and visa requirements before you look into jobs.

Australia might not make you any more outdoorsy than you ever were. Also it is mainly the people that have not moved that rave about the lifestyle.

Amongst people that moved there is probably just as many that do not rave about it as those that do. I am in the "perfectly happy and content" camp myself but I would not be raving about it.

The firm I work for are looking for UK personal injuries lawyers:

Be aware though that it is quite a palaver now to re-qualify here......

Hope that helps

Australia is fine for some things but don't too carried away by the often considered outdoor lifestyle.
Folk spend a lot of time at home here and strange as it may appear, indoors.
Children are kept under wraps(protected)as the fear of stranger danger is felt strongly here.

The so called famous lifestyle only exists if you have the money to back it up and trust me things cost a lot more here than Britain.

As for Law getting a visa may be very difficult. Australia has 40 Universities which offer Law and the market although not as bad as America or Canada is still very oversatturated. Although having experience will be a big plus though but still it's one job market which very few foriegners are able to crack but as someone else said check with the law institute within your chosen state.

First off...oz...is different to the uk...each state has its on laws and practice requirements and therefore you need to think about where you want to live...and then see what you have to do to be admitted

at a very high level..I believe in order to practice in qld you need to:

Have your qualifications/degree assessed by a recognised body
then potentially:
Study a number of units at a one of the uni's - based on a standard uk LLB there are probably 5 units that you would have to do (con/ad,prof ethics, commercial, possibly property)
Then depending on experiece ...apply to be admitted or if lacking on the experience, do the legal prac course...then get admitted as a legal practitioner..

You might look at the queensland law soc web site for more up to date info..

as for jobs...same as anywhere really

hope that helps a little.

Cheers

Thanku for your replies.

I hav lived abroad before so I am not expecting my life to be completly different in Aus, I know I will still b doing the normal stuff an will spend time inside, being short of money sometimes so not being able to do everything. it's nice to hav the option to go outside, even if it's a walk to the park, a picnic or a bike ride, the weather in the UK makes it very difficult to do things outside for a large portion of the year. After living in Dubai and then coming back, I know the UK is not the place for me anymore.

I will get my partner to look at the thread as he knows more about the law side of things than I do. Looks like ther is some useful information thanku.

Thanks again for all your useful info!!

Bonnie I wouldn't b surprised if you see my partners CV, thanks

Xxxxx

Some sites:

www.mahlab.com.au

http://www.mauriceblackburn.com.au/

http://www.laurencesimons.com.au/

http://www.trilbymisso.com.au/

http://www.dolman.com.au/

as one revious poster has said, a few extra units would need to be studied, which are specific to Australia. Once you are aditted in one State, cross admission is easy.

The legal profession in each State/Territory guards its interests tightly. You might want to do a bit of looking around to see how things might play out for you.

Just for a while I'm actually in the same Australia as you! I hadn't noticed any particular inclination of parents here to keep their kids under wraps for that reason? Out of the sun maybe, but not because of any stranger-danger fears.
