How far in advance..?
#1
So I have a date in mind to make the move - I'm looking at Easter next year which is only about 6 months away. The house is on the market, but only just and I would like it sold before we go.
Given that, how far in advance would you book flights, rental, etc?

We waited until our house was sold and that our money was transferred and safe in the bank in oz. Then we booked flights and a holiday park.
We were lucky when our house sold that our friend had an accomm we could move into for two weeks rent free.

If the house sale is a pre-requisite, I wouldn't book flights until house is sold..

If not then book flights as soon as.
Don't book a long term rental over the net, even if they'll let you.
Book a holiday let, caravan or whatever then search for a rental once on the ground. Roo's rentals were pretty good, 650 a week fully furnished including bills.

Thanks for the replies
The house sale isn't necessarily a pre-requisite - I have enough money to get us over and cover not working for a while. But I didn't get work sorted in a few months, and I know it's likely to take at least that being a sparky, then without either selling or letting the house, money would get tight.

If the house sale isn't required, then I'd get out here ASAP.
Book the flights so you then have set a deadline.
Why wait on something so big. Get it done. The earlier you do it, the longer you have to enjoy it.
It's hard to see it from the 'before', but looking back now for the 'after' I wish we'd have done it sooner.
