How do you keep your kids challenged in Aussie schools?

After recalling this thread and the 12/13yr olds in state-school that cannot relate to odd/even numbers.... I had to chuckle last night doing my 6yr old Son's homework with him.

Question 3 : " state the odd numbers from 1 to 10 " ....

his reply, "those are the ones you can't split without having some left over" , and proceeded to work out 1,3,5,7,and 9.

This isnt product of his very expensive english prep-school, this was because his teacher had taught him it here in Aus in the last 4 weeks they've been here.

Wanted to add some further balance to this because those reading it from UK again will feel the Aussie state schools are awful.

An interesting observation after 5 years, state school teachers almost always have their children in Private schools, especially when it comes to High school.
People can make of that what they will, but its worth knowing
