How do you keep your kids challenged in Aussie schools?

Re: How do you keep your kids challenged in Aussie schools?
After recalling this thread and the 12/13yr olds in state-school that cannot relate to odd/even numbers.... I had to chuckle last night doing my 6yr old Son's homework with him.
Question 3 : " state the odd numbers from 1 to 10 " ....
his reply, "those are the ones you can't split without having some left over" , and proceeded to work out 1,3,5,7,and 9.
This isnt product of his very expensive english prep-school, this was because his teacher had taught him it here in Aus in the last 4 weeks they've been here.
Wanted to add some further balance to this because those reading it from UK again will feel the Aussie state schools are awful.
