Hi folks can anybody tell me what a duplex is,also what are the pro's and con's for gated complexes.

Duplex is a double house, or if you prefer a semi-detached.
As for gated complexes, I think you have to pay Strata Fees to go to the maintenance and "membership" of the complex and the use of any facilities. All depends on what you want really.

Duplexes can be different things in different states. In NSW they are often a buidling that contains two flats - one above the other. From the outside they can look like a largish house. Similarly, you also get triplexes - buildings that contains three flats.

Sometimes modern semi's (two houses side-by-side) are also called duplexes, whereas older semi's (in Sydney, anyway) are called semi's.

In Perth they sometimes use the term for houses that are actually detached, but on a block that has been divided, so generally smaller.
