Been to P M a couple of times. It seems a pretty good sort of place with most of the facilities you would expect. I have been told by relations with a flat there that is becoming very popular for retired people. I was only there for a short while so my knowledge is not extensive, but if you have any specific questions I will try to answer,or will find out for you.

I've lived and worked in Port Macquarie. And I was unfortunate enough to need hospital attention there, so guess I can give you that experience.

Firstly, the town and area is absolutely fantastic. Gorgeous hinterland, breathtaking beaches, fabulous estuary. What can I say - the most naturally beautiful place I've ever lived in (within reach of western civilisation).

The climate is lovely as well. Being further up the coast from Sydney, you're usually milder, but without the severe humidity often experienced by Queensland. Although it's often quite windy there.

The thing is with many places up the coast, they're very small, with no feeling of life. Port, has everything, couple of nice shopping centres, banks, cinema good restaurants etc. etc. but still maintains that small town community feel. With it being a popular weekend/holiday destination for Sydney siders, the nights are never dead. The golf course is good as well by the way.

Outside of Port, it does feel a bit country yokel, but there are many other places to visit, and you're only 4 hours from Sydney if you fancy a weekend away.

As for the hospital - clean, friendly staff, better attention than I've received privately in the U.K., and more importantly very little waiting to see a specialist.

If you need anymore info. PM me. I still have a couple of friends and contacts there.

Good luck.

Humphrey.

If you're looking for a place to go visit on holiday or retire to Port Macquarie is ideal. If you've still got a bit of life left in yourself then you'd become bored with this place pretty quickly
We had a lovely holiday there and that's all I'd recommend it for, beautiful beaches and countryside (abet tinder dry) but very little else....

Hi My OH and I live at Crowdy Head which is about 45-60 min south of Port. Port is lovely, it has a nice atmosphere and the beaches and surrounding forests are lovely. I don't know about working there, but I work for the health service in Taree and they are the nicest bunch of people you could hope to work with. If you have a trade I don't think work would be a prob but I'm not sure anything else.

It has clubs galore...running, triathlon, mountain biking etc etc. We love where we live but there is no life if you are under 50yrs. We just went up to Byron Bay for the weekend and it was great..people under 35!!! I think when my contract is up we will move up that way either closer to Port or up to Ballina etc.

The surrounding suburbs around port are also really nice and still very affordable. We came out through the rsms visa and couldn't wish for a nicer place to live out our two years and then who knows what we will decide to do.

Anyway, I hope this helped a bit. Good luck with the studies, I retrained inorder to get into aus, so its definately worth it. Take care podesh
