Default Holidays to Australia

Hi All

I am thinking of going to Australia in June for a 3 week holiday.

I would like to visit as many places as possible in particular Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney and possibly Perth. I could maybe fly in to one of the airports and fly back from another.

What the best way of getting between each place and also can anyone suggest some decent places to stay at each place?

Thanks in Advance

Claire

sydney 5 days
we flew with ba - singapore

qantus -perth

we got back from a holiday 6 weeks ish ago, and we did loads
(we = me, oh, 3 kids of 6,6 and 9)

lhr-adelaide (flew with malaysia; tickets cost £3200 for 5 of us - probably would have got a better/cheaper deal if we'd had time to shop around))
adelaide 12 nights, stayed in a holiday rental at west beach thru remax, great little unit for about $500, we were in adelaide ti visit family, but got out to mannum, cleland wildlife park/mount lofty, port adelaide and all over the place really!
car rental for 10 days was $350.
flew adelaide to gold coast for $99 each (with jetstar), stayed at turtle beach resort for $139 per night for 8 nights - spent our days going to the beach, up to surfers, theme parks and driving round and visiting friends.
then drove up to bris, car hire $39/day for a toyota corrolla.
stayed in a shit little place that was very central but really spoiled our holiday so wouldnt recommend it (just stay clear of dorchester inn apartments) for $150/night. visited friends and wandered into bris most days - went to noosa, coolum, aus zoo and did lots of driving around there.
flew out of brisbane to Lhr ....

cost us a bloody fortune mind ... altogether the holiday cost us over £7k ... but we had a fantastic time

Do Australia not have a version of easy jet that offers cheap flights from one place in Australia to another?

Hi

We flew Qantas to Melbourne
Virgin Blue to Launceston, Tasmania £72! (2 adults & 2 children)
Virgin Blue from Hobart to Adelaide £243
Sealink Ferry to Kangaroo Island £98
Qantas Adelaide to Melbourne £155

Jetstar and Virgin Blue do some great deals, just depends on what day and what time you can fly eg we only paid £72 to fly from Melbourne to Tasmania for 4 people because we took advantage of a special offer but flying from tas to Adelaide was considerably more expensive.
We found all of the domestic flights to be problem free.
We stayed in a mixture of hotels, lodges and serviced appartments (which worked out good value for a family of 4 and gave us much more space and facilties, eg washing machine, than the hotel rooms)

Have fun planning your holiday, I loved organising ours, did it all oursleves, mostly online, getting the info from each areas tourism websites etc, We also got some good itinerary ideas from Austravel, although we did not use them in the end, as it was cheaper to book it all ourselves.
