Hi there,


Been lurking for ages, can now see why people find this forum so addictive! We're moving from London to Melbourne, hopefully arriving early March, subject to getting our 457 in time. I play hockey and my other half plays rugby union and we'd like to find some local clubs to join to keep fit and meet people. Can anyone recommend clubs or point me in the direction of more info? Not too sure where we'll be living yet, hopefully East as that's where I'll be working but all suggestions gratefully received!

Excellent I am making the same move and was wondering about hockey and cricket clubs, I more than likely will be moving to the St kilda area.Any suggestions woud be most welcome.

Nor sure about Hockey, but there doesn't seem to be a single Rugby Union club at any sort of proficient level as everyone plays AFL!

There is a RU club in Endeavour Hills. There is a site which lists RU clubs in Melbourne - they do exist.
As B says proficiency is something else.

I chose Rugby League (promoted by Melbourne Storm 2007 premiers) when I got here and trained with a club in Doveton.

Both locations are South Eastern burbs.

Hockey or ice hockey?

Hockey should be common enough that you'll be able to find a club. Although I don't play it so I'm not sure.

Ice hockey is not that common but there is a rink or two in Melbourne. So either way you should be able to find what you're looking for.

I played hockey in melbourne years ago. Lots of clubs around and the majority have turfs. For St Kilda area look at Moorabin (sp?), which is who I played for, but this is over 15 years ago! Look up www.hockeyvictoria.org.au/ and that should help you out.
