Hi to Everyone,

We are moving to Australia in January 2008 and we have an Investment Property in the UK that we will only be selling after we are settled in Australia. to avoid UK CGT. It is my understanding that the Australian Tax Office will accept a value at the date of our move (for the calculation of Capital Gains Tax in Australia) and my query is what are the requirements of an appropriate valuation as I need to get this sorted out ASAP. i.e. would a valuation from a High Street estate agent be adequate or do I need to get and pay for a sworn valuation from a qualified property surveyor. Any help you can provide on the subject will be most appreciated.

Isn't capital gains tax subject to self-assessment?

Hi
All you need is a written valuation from a high street estate agent, for its market value from the day you leave, and as long as you dont sell above that figure you wont pay any oz tax, if you sell above the valuation you pay tax on the difference
