Default Help re; Melbourne

Hi folks

More things to organise - less time to do it!!! (trying not to panic!!!)

We're staying in accomodation in Carrum for our first two weeks on arrival in Victoria. I'm trying to compare car hire prices and am looking for somewhere near to Carrum so we can collect and return the car.

A lot of rental places have many offices but I'm not sure which side of Melbourne Carrum is. (stupid I know).

Can anyone help? Make any recommendations etc etc.

Would be very grateful for any help.
Cheers,
T

Hi,
We live over in Narre Warren. I have driven through Carrum & Carrum Downs and it is South East of Melbourne. Try the Yellow Pages for car hire near carrum.

Thanks Melbournebound. Unfortunately I'm in the UK still so don't have a yellow pages - just a Melway that a friend bought over from Oz for us. Knowing that it's South East will hopefully narrow my search down though.

Appreciate your help, x

Hello,

I think your best bet from Carrum will be Frankston. I think Carrum station is a few stops from Fankston. I think they may be both in Zone 3. I had a look in the yellow pages:
AA Action Rent A Car -9783 5756
AVIS Frankston: 9781 3322
Thrifty: 9770 2999

I can't put Budget, because they are robbing b'stards.

You need to put 00 61 3 in front of the above numbers when calling from the UK.

Cheers
Alistair

Trood, you can get a very good small late model car from 'rent a bomb 'for around $200 a week - ask andy .
They are the best for price and there is a depot in Oakleigh .It's about a 20 min drive from carrum but you can save heaps

Hi,
we were in a similar boat when we moved out in May, some firms wont hire cars to you if you dont have a credit card. We went to rentabomb in dandenong and saw some new cars outside and thought we would be getting one of them, how wrong we were, we ended up with a 20yr old toyota corrola very dirty inside, they dont clean them often, with a overflowing ashtray, the car cost about $170 dollars per week, we would have paid a lot more for a decent car but without a credit card they say its too much risk for them. We ended up buying a secondhand ford focus from mitsubushi in dandenong for the same amount monthly as we were paying weekly for car hire.

& let that be a lesson to us all!

No seriously, sometimes it's better to buy a cheep car, rather than rent one.
