here is a web site for the libraries
I used them to email home - its free!

4. Which are the best public park in city to be visited?
go to http://www.melbourne.com.au/

the Botanic gardens are lovely

5. Is it possible that for a family of 3 ( 2 adult 1 child) we can get bed and breakfast accomadation within range of 50 - 75 AUD per day? if so contact person?

I haven''t come across anything quite that cheap, although www. THEAGE.COM.au did have a good option in the "holiday accomadation

http://www.domain.com.au/listing.asp...HOL&id=3304927
it might be worth looking in the newspaper . There are service apartments advertised too :

6. What will be the approximate cost for lunch and dinner for family of 3 in melbourne (vegetranian food) ?
depends on what you like. I ended up buying ny food at the supermarket when I stayed in a holiday cabin so that was cheap.

7.Any other tourist attraction in Melbourne or must see places if any please suggest with detail.
I walked and took the trams and trains around the attractions, I did the aquarium, Victoria market, -The Rialto tower(observation deck) definately worth the view on a clear day!! The tea at The Windsor hotel -yummy!
The great ocean road trip - I did it with APT tours it meant I didn't need to drive myself! wonderful!
Mornington Peninsular was pretty.
Puffing Billy train- the children enjoyed it a few yrs ago.
The penguins at Phillip Island a must just for the fun of seeing thenmwaddle over the beach!
swim with Dolphins at Portsea
I have loads of sites bookmarked ! hope this this is a start for you

Bring the proof of purchase with you. Providing you didn't buy duty free they won't ask you for any $$$

2. What about public transport within the city somebody told me in Melbourne you can get day pass/ week pass for travel within city by bus and same is used in train too Is it right ? and what is price for day/ week pass?
That's correct, the tickets are valid for train/tram and bus transport. A word of advice, if you want a day/week ticket, buy it from a newsagent or kiosk as the machines on the trams only spit out a maximum of 2 hours on a ticket.

3.My daughter is interested in reading books ? is there any British library / or any other library which is open to visitor in Melbourne ? is it free or they charge some thing?
I've never come across a library in Australia which charges for entry. There's a brilliant library in the city center, well worth paying that a visit.

4. Which are the best public park in city to be visited?
Go visit the botanical gardens, great place to visit.

5. Is it possible that for a family of 3 ( 2 adult 1 child) we can get bed and breakfast accomadation within range of 50 - 75 AUD per day? if so contact person?
It is possible to get accomodation for that price near the city, check out some of the hotels in South Melbourne, there's good value for money and it's very easy to get into the city on the tram. Just one thing to watch out for, if the advert says "hotel" it may not necessarily be one as quite a lot of pubs call themselves that but don't actually have any accomodation.

6. What will be the approximate cost for lunch and dinner for family of 3 in melbourne (vegetranian food) ?
Depends on where you go. Excellent vegetarian food north of the city, head towards Brunswick street.

7.Any other tourist attraction in Melbourne or must see places if any please suggest with detail.
Loads. Best idea is to start with the CBD and work your way out if transport is a problem. I heartily recommend a tour around the CUB brewery.

In the city go see the jail, victoria markets, swanston street, museum, state library, government house and state gallery of victoria. Then maybe start looking further out, St Kilda, Port Melbourne, Williamstown further around the coast and go see Geelong, Portsea, Philip Island. Further north go see the country, visit some wineries and stuff.

A daily pass is $5.80 at the moment. Don't know about the weekly one but it does exist. It covers bus, tram and train and is an excellent idea. (Why does the UK lag behind just about everywhere else in these cross-transport things?)

If you find any good veggie restaurants then let us know on the forum. I'm sure I'm not the only one here who likes to know about these things.

Oh, and yes it wil feel very cold I should imagine!

Have a great time. (How could you not?!)

I'll concede on the coat, but an umbrella would only have been used once in the last few months (serious drought) - my family reported their first rain in months in their suburb on Tuesday.

Same up here. I was in the country an hour beyond Bathurst and it is brown out there. The dam was down to its last few percent and there is a danger of another El Nino. The water table is also plummeting so farmers are having to dig deeper and deeper bores. Without good rain the area could be in serious trouble.

Even though they have privatised some parts of the so called 'public' transport system in Melbourne the government has ensured that they are co-ordinated under the one fare system.

Soul Mama is the best veggie restaurant IMO in Melbourne. It is in the St Kilda Sea Baths complex. Main courses are between about $7-$11. It's great value, an amazing location (right on the esplanade, overlooking the bay), and the food is out of this world.

Regarding the drought, my sister in Robinvale (NW Vic, on border with NSW) hasnt had rain since December. They irrigate directly from the Murray...although the river isn't without its own problems.

Did someone say 10 degrees?? I used to cyle to work in 2 degrees in Melbourne winter!!
