Default Help - Excess Baggage....

Hi

Hope some one can help - we validated our visas in March 2005 as we had our wedding booked in September 2005, also the house has taken longer to sell (sold yesterday!!) so thankfully we did go last year.....So, we are planning to go for good in July, however, because we have already been out and had the visa's stampted, spoke to some one at Emirates today and they said we are NOT entiltled to 40kg baggage allowance, even though we are goinh oneway and will have to pay. Does any one know a way around this or advice us of another ariline to try?? Surely other people have been out to validated before actually moving??

Can't wait to get there!!!

Thank you

Lots of others have validated first, but the airlines will almost always only give the extra baggage on the first use of the visa - so if you validate first, you are usually out of luck when you actually emigrate.

If you try Singapore Airlines and explain the situation you can probably get 30kg; my daughter has (and I've confirmed it's noted in the system) and I've heard of others who have done the same.

Hope this helps; otherwise you could try shipping your excess, by air freight if necessary - still expensive but possibly cheaper than taking it with you and paying excess at check in.

Hi Tartan Sunburn

We validated with Singapore Airlines and after booking our one way flights, I exchanged confusing emails with the customer services department that could be interpreted to mean we did and did not have an increased baggage allowance!
In the end I wrote to them, explained our situation and they wrote back agreeing to increase our allowance to 30kg each, 5 of us so 150kg in total.
When we flew we had 149kg of luggaage but were well over on hand luggage but they let us buy another case and checked it in without charge.

We stayed 2 nights in Singapore and when we went to check in they were going to charge us excess baggage but when I showed them the letter they were quite happy to let us on and did not weigh the hand luggage this time! ( just as well as we bought loads in Singapore!)

Hope it goes well for you.

Cheers
