Help on employer sponsored visa
Hi,
I have done some searches on the forum but still have some points i need clarifying. My partner and I are both being sponsored for positions in an institute in Perth. We need PR in order to be able to apply for renewed funding in australia but as far as i can tell our particular job is not on the TRA list (we are biological/medical researchers). Is there a way of getting Employer sponsored nomination with PR from outside the country when you skill is not on the TRA list or do we have to go on a 457 temp visa and then apply for PR when we are there. If that is the case how difficult is it to get PR quickly if the employer is keen for us to have PR so we can apply for future funding?
I also at some point found a post with average waiting times for different visa types but have tried to recreate the search and cannot find it.. anyone have a rough idea of the differecne between the waiting times of a 457 versus a 856 or 857?
Apologies if this is the wrong forum or if it has been covered ad infinitum..and thanks in advance
Cheers

Look at the following documents and see if you can find your job then look to see who assesses it. These will also tell you how many points it is worth.

Re: Help on employer sponsored visa
I agree with Wendy.
TRA are only one of the bodies that assess skills.
Don't know the details but from memory VETASSESS is another one.
Moving from a 457 to an employer nominated PR visa can be straightforward if you qualify. However if you qualify it would be a good idea to get that before you come over.
If you are going to Perth the 119/857 is not open to you. Perth is one of the few places that RSMS visas are excluded from. Check the post code.....
http://www.dimia.gov.au/employers/rsms_postcodes.htm
It would have to be the 121/856 ENS visa.
Average waiting times for a 457 have been 6-8 weeks but recently a backlog has occurred so it is a little longer - especially Perth.
Don't know what the average times for an 856 is.
If you held the 457 you could apply for another visa at any time you wanted.
BTW 121 = offshore application. 856 = onshore.

Re: Help on employer sponsored visa
Hi my OH is a specialist research scientist (job not on TRA) and we have just got pr on an employer sponosred 121 visa. It took in all about two months. If you're that specialised you don't need a skills assessment (he had an interview for his job) there's something about it on DIMA. Don't go on a 457 get your company to sponsor you for PR. It takes the same time to go through and gives you more security as there's lots of things that you can't claim if it's a temp visa. Good luck. PM me if you need any more info.
