Default Help and advice for Newbie Family looking for info on location/visas

Hi,
We are a young family looking to emigrate to Austrailia. It is something my partner and I have thought about for a number of years and we are now ready to take the plunge. Despite trawlling through the internet I have done nothing but get lost. So my researching has brought me here to you beautiful people.

The main thing is location at the moment, and we are open to most places. But we do want the suburbs, somewhere where there are other ex pats, and good schools. Of course proximatey to a beach would also be a huge bonus.

Then there is the issue of visas which have completely baffled me just where exactly do we start? Please help

My partner is a self employed builder, varying in all trades and I am a nursery nurse. My son is 5 years old.

There are so many people telling us you need this and need that. We would just like someone anyone to point us in the right direction.

I hope I havent bored you to tears.

Pots x

Hi Mandy and welcome to B.E.

It's my pleasant duty to welcome you to the forum and give you a point of contact should you need any help with the site in general. You can contact me here.

A list of all the moderators and helpers with their relevant countries including Australia can be found here.

Any problems, dont hesitate to PM me.

With respect, the first thing is Visas, then location, unless you are looking at state sponsorship of course.

Have you seen www.immi.gov.au ? Apologies if you have but that is the place to start.

Consider using a mara registered migration agent if you really get lost in it all. If you'd like agent details, post back here.

I am not an agent but we do have several highly regarded and oft recommended agents who are members of B.E.

Enjoy B.E.

Alistair.

Once you've checked out the Immi site, please ask all visa and immi questions in the Immigration Forum. Stacks of help and advice there both from current and old (experience not necessarily age) applicants as well as masses of info through the search facility.

With regard to the best place to go, ask an impossible question why don't you? First work out if you can get a visa, then work out what climate would suit you all best, Aus is obviously a massive place and each state has huge variations in weather and climate, let alone the whole country, then do you want city life, suburb life, country life etc etc etc. Then you can start narrowing things down a bit.

The first thing we did was contact an agent so see if we were suitable candidates, they will let you know after speaking to you or you answering online questions. They'll explain what visa would suit you best etc. That bit of it was free and very informative.

Least then you'll know where you stand, before you decide if you want to continue on your journey to a life in Oz - Good luck
