It has a lot to do with the fact that you only get about half the area of land you thought you bought.
The other half are old sealed mineshafts that are caving in
The mineshafts are useful if you need a cellar or shelter from a cyclone

So you can deduce from the replies so far that the majority of people don't want to live here & view the folks that do as rough as guts ferals.
