Greetings from Sunny Dubai
Well after closing the sale of one house and trying to get another house ready for rent, including remodelling the garden and repairing the roof then paying off all the bills, closing all the credit cards and generally completing loads of paperwork, we finally set of a couple of days ago on the first leg of our one way journey to Oz.
Things didn't go too brilliantly when we got to the check-in desk at Manchester. Even though Emirates had increased our allowance to 40 kilos a bag giving us a total 120 kilos, we found we actually had 175 kilos of luggage! So in full view of our fellow passengers we managed to offload 47 kilos worth. The check-in staff allowed us the extra 8 as our hand luggage was under. Luckily the missus' best friend arrived to see us off, so she was able to take the surplus luggage back with her.
So now we are in Dubai. What are it's plus points? Well it's 100% guaranteed sunny and dry weather. Totally welcome after the poor summer in the Uk this year. Also it's nice hotels. Mind you the from the airport all you can see is half finished buildings, so much so that the place must be the the largest construction site in the world. From the beach at the front of our hotel, we counted 26 cranes (of the metal variety) within our view.
Tomorrow we have to get up at 5.30am (2.30 BST) for our flight to Singapore for a couple of nights then it's on to Melbourne. Not sure we are looking forward to our serviced apartments in Melb after being rather spoilt in a couple of plush hotels. Still, it's back to the serious business when we get to Oz, so the apartments will make it seem less like a holiday which we do not really want.
Got to go and wake up the missus and my son now.
Neil
