Default Greetings from NZ

Hi everyone!

Just thought I would introduce myself on here too seeing as I barged on in with a frantic question in the Immigration forum.

I am Mummy Pinkgal and there is a Daddy Pinkgal, a big Pinkgal and 2 baby Pinkgals. We are currently in NZ and have been here for a few years now, but looking at migrating again to Australia. I am in teaching and the Mr is in IT. We are looking at moving to Queensland or Melbourne this year hopefully - still having to narrow down, but jobs will help us to decide our final destination.

Thanks for reading!

Hello

Welcome to BE - never worry about just blundering in with a question, that's probably what the majority of us did! Manners are sooooooo last year, dahhhling

Good luck with your Visa application hope it all goes smoothly. In reference to your post in immi forum I would hate to have to do the IELTS even though as a native english speaker as well, it should be a doddle.

Hopefully more people will be along to say hello soon, but they're probably all out at the supermarkets pricing lettuce and bananas and bemoaning the lack of decent sausages ready for discussion here later

Haha I will fit in around here!

Thankyou for the welcome, I don't expect replies. I wasn't just putting me out there a bit

Hi, in IT, depending on which branch of it your hubbie works in, the most number of jobs will be in Melbourne or Sydney. Queensland is much more limited for IT, and a lot of the more specialist work is done by people working out of the bigger cities.

Are you NZ citizens? If so, you can move across immediately although you will then get a perpetually temporary visa which allows you to work and live anywhere but does place some other restrictions on you in other ways.

If you are not NZ citizens then you will of course have to start the entire visa process from scratch.

Hope that helps.

Good luck. We live near Wellington and have no plans to jump the ditch, but plenty do.

Hi there
I'm a teacher who moved from NZ to Qld in 2011. If you have any questions about teaching in Qld, I'd be happy to help if I can. Are you primary or secondary?

Hi pinkgal.

We moved to Perth in 2003 after 8 years in NZ. Bit of a shaky start, but IMHO there is no comparison. Oz is a million times better.

GOOD LUCK

Sorry for jumping in, but can you elaborate "Oz is a million times better"

Thanks guys. Might be emigrating sooner rather than later now as circumstances have changed a bit and pulled the (comfortable for now) rug from under us. I wondered why we had such a great start to the year with no hiccups

Ahhh, I forgot about the stresses of migrating. So much to do, so little time! Schools, jobs, houses... and breathe!

mmm I reckon they mean higher income, lower costs, better weather, etc etc. Lifestyle in both countries is great, but in Australia you can afford to have more lifestyle!

Well... I'll be able to experience all that in a matter of weeks. I applied for a job on Tuesday evening (15th), she called me Wednesday to set up Skype interview on Thursday, finished Skype interview an hour ago, she called me back 30 minutes ago and OFFERED ME THE JOB

That's a record breaking speed ! Well done. Did you accept ? Just proves how quick their recruitment can be when they want to. I understand it varies from job to job.

We are currently living in Brisbane. I work in IT and my girlfriend is a teacher.

IT wise, the Brisbane market is quite slow. Specific areas of IT might be stronger (I'm a .NET developer, and compared to Sydney / Melbourne the market is non existent). Teaching wise, it all seems to be more of a personal approach required to find work. We dropped CV's and went in person to more than 20 schools. It paid off, a 2 hour trial turned into full time teacher aide work. We are hoping that she can now register for tracer (the local supply work system) to hopefully find more work as a teacher rather than teacher aide.
