We got flashed when validating and the ticket followed us all the way to the UK. I think it was $150 but couldn't swear to that.

Hubby got a speeding prosecution notice through the post yesterday. Here we are, hopefully moving to Oz very early next year and happily commenting ther other day that we will be going with clean licences

How long do points stay on your licence over there. It used to be 4 years here but I think it is 5 now. I assume it won't have any implications getting our licence in WA will it?

A couple of guys I worked with over here in 97 got a nasty shock when they left to go back to the UK. They spent the last week in the country driving round Adelaide with reckless abandon getting flashed quite a few times. Got to Sydney airport to leave and when their visas were put into the computer the nice man from immigration informed them they had about $700 worth of outstanding speeding fines and weren't going anywhere till they were paid. As the two said felons had just blown the last of their cash in the airport shops/bar they ended up having to get someones parents out of bed at 3AM in the UK to pay by credit card so they were allowed to leave.

Allegedly it was marked on their records that they tried to flee the country without paying fines, no idea if that actually happened as bothe have been too scared to come back ever since lol.

Demerit points on QLD open licence (Other States may be different)

If you hold a Queensland open licence and have at least seven demerit points recorded against your traffic history in a three year period, a courtesy letter advising you of this fact may be sent to you.

Once you have at least 12 demerit points recorded against your traffic history in a three year period and you are holding a Queensland open licence, you will be sent an Accumulation of demerit points-notice to choose.

This notice will require you to choose one of the following options:
- Having your licence suspended for a stated period or
- Agreeing to be of good behaviour while driving for one year (known as a Good Driving Behaviour (GDB) period).

You will be taken to be of good driving behaviour while driving for a year if no more than one demerit point is allocated to your traffic history during that year.

What is the stated period of suspension for an open licence?
The stated period of suspension for an open licence is calculated as follows. If you accumulate:
At least 12 but not more than 15 demerit points-three months.
At least 16 but not more than 19 demerit points-four months.
20 or more demerit points-five months.
