You may be interested in this link about Griffith's "colourful" past. Many years ago it was a Mafia centre and had a large number of marijuana plantations in the area. I guess the two go together. Things came to a head when the anti-Mafia campaigning councillor Donald McKay was murdered.
Hope this doesn't put you off Griffith. It was about 25 years ago and I believe things have really been cleaned up there now.
