Re: Good and Bad areas
Thought that might be the case. Left the question a little open.
Basically we are looking to buy (No mortgage) a 4 or 5 bed property with a swimming pool. We are looking to spend in the region of $400,000 to $450,000 on a property.
Areas, well, we were origionally looking to go to the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast or Brisbane areas but are being open minded at the moment and are quite flexible in where we want to live in Queensland but bearing in mind we have three children aged 4, 12 and 14.
Hope that narrows things down to the the nearest 100,000 square mile )

Not being difficult, but we would need more really to give decent advice! Also, over here - you may not know - even towns in their own right are often referred to as Suburbs, for instance on www.realestate.com.au even towns like Mackay and Bundaberg are classed as suburbs.
Where are you likely to be working?

can only say avoid Inala...it's a suburb of Brisbane... It's an area with many social issues.. not that I haven't worked with many nice people who come from there. Area has a huge proportion of gov. housing etc... guess it's a poorer suburb of Brissie?? Don't wish to offend anyone with this post...

So generally is the southwest part of Brisbane the poorer area or is it a bit more complex then that ?

Rob, sorry, but the question is way way too open, its a bit like saying where are the good places to live in England. Except that Qld is about 5 times the size. I can name literally dozens & dozens of places that you can buy a house for $450K & all decent, as thats a reasonable sort of budget for a house here in Brisbane.
On the subject of places to avoid, Brissiegirl has mentioned Inala which I totallly agree with, also check out these threads
Places to Live - opinions from the forum
Know anything about Brisbane
Manly West + suburbs along the river
Bad areas
Please remember that some of those threads are old so the prices may have changed, but the general info in them is sound. If you do a search on "brisbane" you will find a heap of info. Probably the main thing to bear in mind is that if a place/suburb is cheap - its usually for a reason!
If you can be more specific, that would help.
