We're looking at jobs in Melbourne. Can anyone recommend good places in the east or south east please? out of the city for preference, quiet neighbourhoods, good road or rail links. All the usual things.

Is that places to live or work? Are you buying or renting? How much money do you want to spend? Do you have children? How far out of the city?

Until we know more, it's a bit hard to give any advice...

Just one more thing to add, do you want to be near the ocean?

Melbourne's not near the ocean. It's on a bay.

We're probably going to be looking at rentals to start with, but when we do buy we'd like to buy land and build - something with a reasonable size plot, near to countryside or beach. I've been told it gets very hot there in the summer so perhaps somewhere that catches the breeze?

No kids to worry about so schools aren't an issue for us, just a really great neighbourhood, quiet at night with no boy racers and good facilities - cafes, restaurants, pubs etc. somewhere nice to go out in the evening and weekends.

Not sure what our budget would be as it would depend on what sort of salaries we'd get down there.

Think you should wait then before asking the question as this will be the first determinate.

ask here.

I chose Ringwood as it's on the train line. Croydon looks good as well.

Horses for courses. I have 2 teenagers and wanted good transport for access to uni/schools in city. One at Melbourne Uni, other MHS, so both train it.
