Have you looked at the Moving Back to the UK forum....there are a few posters in the same predicament there. You might get some help from their experiences.

we lived in adelaide for 5 years and had our second child there. We lived in the gorgeous Stirling but my OH felt the kids needed the 'family' connection.Moved back to sunny Berkshire 2 and half years ago. One Grandma now lives in Wales and one in France we pay if we need a babysitter too much hassle to ask family. After many bottles of wine and soul searching we have decided to move again we cannot live with the feeling of restlessness any more. We are thinking of Brisbane as OH feels would be happier there. One thing I think has come out of this all is this - it has to be a joint decision one will always feel they were the only ones to compromise and it can only be you and your partners decision. As many other posters have said so many people say you must be mad to leave/move out there but they don't live the reality. good luck

You have to do what feels right. If that means coming back, then so be it. It just costs so much money...i am due to go back to UK in August. If i don't settle back there, then yes we would try here in OZ again...that's life. All very confusing, nothing is simple is it!! good luck.

we moved to oz in 2006 and came home 6 months later, now we are moving back have had another baby last september so just waiting for his visa, my hubby cannot wait and did not want to return in the first place and there were alot of arguments, I have said we will go back and I am as nervous as hell, I suffer from anxiety and this does not help at all, my little boy of 7 cannot wait but my 9 year old daughter is a little less sure, I just want to feel settled so wish I had stayed there in the first place may have had a house etc by now as right now feel like in limbo and would have saved alot of hassel, we are moving back to perth and hope it works out, good luck to you and hope all goes well, where are you moving too.

Hi all,

With regards to moving abroad and going back "home" again - I did the same thing - but not between UK & Aus.

I was born in UK - moved to South Africa when I was 2yrs old (my whole family are South African). When I had my son & lost my mum 9yrs ago, I moved over to the UK to be near my brother who has settled here.

Immigrating is a life changing event and can be an emotional rollercoaster - especially if (at times) it's not 100% joint decision between husband & wife.

Between 1999 and 2001 I moved between SA & UK 3 times (cost me a mint!)

The last time I moved back to SAfrica - I just had this awful gut feeling as the wheels lifted off the runway at Heathrow and thought to myself "what the hell are you doing"? I returned to the UK on 9th March 01 - and have stayed put now and am happy.

Having been through all of this backward & forwards from one end of the world to the other - I know that moving to Aussie will be a big change of life (although I'm looking forward to Sunshine and swimming pools . I think my Fiance' who has grown up in UK may find it tough at some time - but it was his idea and is now a strong joint decision between us.

...lol... yes I'm still waffling on!

All in all - what I say is that if you can afford to do a reccie trip - do it! There is nothing worse than selling up everything and moving the other side of the world and then not liking it! (and very expensive)

I'm sure we'll all survive - and live to tell our stories round an Aussie BBQ.

good luck to all of you & remember we all go through these scarey emotions.

regards
maz
