once he's satisfied everythings okay (been s/e for 18 yrs makes it far more complicated) it will get passed on the adelaide

then i can get on with the state sponsored bit (hopefully;-)

however there are loads of people here and in adelaide that can give you pretty much everything you need to know

cheers

Richard, I found this on the 'Immigration SA' site. Is it any good to you?

Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic

This information sheet is given to Principal Migration Applicants who are classified for migration purposes as Refrigeration and Air conditioning Mechanics.
Skills Assessment
In South Australia, Refrigeration and Air conditioning Mechanics are required to be registered under the Plumbers, Gas Fitters and Electricians Act, 1995 before they can legally carry out electrical work.
You must first contact Trades Recognition Australia (TRA). Even though you have been classified for migration purposes you will not automatically be granted an Australian Recognised Trade Certificate (ARTC) when you arrive in Australia. TRA will assess your skills and qualifications and decide whether they are sufficient for an ARTC. A fee is charged when you submit an application for skills assessment. Inquiries and application kit:

Trades Recognition Australia
GPO Box 9879
SYDNEY NSW 2001
Telephone: +61 2 9246 0760
Facsimile: +61 2 9246 0735
Email: [email protected]
Website: www.workplace.gov.au/TRA
TRA makes every effort to complete all assessments and to issue certificates to successful applicants within 90 days of application, however this may sometimes be exceeded due to various circumstances. Further information is available from TRA.
Successful ARTC applicants should then approach the Office of Consumer and Business Affairs (the electrical licensing authority) with their ARTC in order to obtain electrical registration in South Australia. The assessment of your trade qualification at the time of your migration assessment by the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs is not sufficient for this purpose.
It is important to note that there may be delays before you are eligible to work as a Refrigeration
and Air conditioning Mechanic in South Australia. For further information, contact the licensing body:

(select job finder, job search, category and location).
Other vacancies may be advertised in the regional newspapers in country regions of South Australia
or the Australian Jobsearch website that lists jobs for trade qualified people.
