Yes - I've done it.

Our visa was granted in June 2003. I got married Oct 2003.

We advised the processing unit in Adelaide that we were engaged and planning to get married in Oct. The visa was granted in my original name and I sent my passport off to get the visa proof sticker in my passport.

After my wedding I got my passport changed to my married name and sent it off to Australia house so they could update their records & put a new visa sticker in my updated passport in my married name.

We are validating next week but going to Melbourne.

Hope this helps...

We did it too.

Got our PR in May 03 and got married in Las Vegas on the way to Oz in Oct 03.

I changed my name in my passport once we arrived in Oz - BUT they didnt give me a new visa sticker, just issued me a new passport and sent my old one back with the corners cut off all the pages (apart from the one with the visa sticker on)!!!

I think it may be possible just to hold a copy of your marriage licence with your passport to prove your change of name, especially if your wedding is close to your departure to Oz date. It took a while to get my passport back...

I know of people who have travelled generally like this many times before but not with a PR visa so if going down this route best to check with Oz Immigration.

I had a few years left on my original passport but the passport office charge you for a brand new one and don't carry the years on your existing passport forward (money grabbing bleeps....)

Hello

Yes, they charge you for anything these days to make money from you dont they!??

Thanks guys for your help, this has been very useful, as we wanted to marry before we went to Auz so familys could attend our wedding etc... but we dont want to do it till before we go as we are gonna use a stopover on the way to Auz as our honnymoon, cos as you all know getting to Auz is a costley business as well is a wedding!!! ha,ha!

I am releived to hear that we can gain our PR first and then plan our wedding!

cheers

love laura
