Default Getting a job (whilst offshore)

Are there any reputable agencies that will work on your behalf and sell you to prospective employers before you get to Australia?

Would like to imagine landing with a few job interviews up my sleeve rather than just landing!

Its a difficult one but i am trying hard at the moment to land a few interviews, otherwise the best thing to do when you get there is to pop into some firms and drop of your resume

I think the resume job is a good Idea (NB does anyone know how to key in an 'e' with an accent on top of it so that resume is spelt properly?) as I will be in OZ next month on a reconnaissance trip, and would be ideal for dropping off a few CV's to major players in my field.

Both me and my partner both got jobs from the UK but it is quite unusual. It was very odd having telephone interviews being offered the job and only finding out what they are like after you arrive!!!

Saying that it has worked out well and I am really enjoying it. I am working on the Commonwealth Games so it is only a 5 month job but a great place to work.

My wife also managed to get her job whilst still in the UK, so it is possible, but from my own experience, most agencies will not really start talking to clients until you are actually in Oz. Of course it all depends on what you do. If you're a brain surgeon or even a mere CEO you may have your resume/CV acknowledged by the agencies.

It's not a bad place to bum around in for a few months - that's what I did whilst I was 'looking' for a job Until she persuaded me to really get a job...

So good luck!

I am definately not a brain surgeon and whilst the agency was slow they did respond. I work in network management and project management of IT and my partner is a teacher of ICT and German and she was turning down jobs that she doid not even apply for!!!

Well IT is supposed to be picking up here in Oz. And your wife is working in the right sector too. If my wife succeeded in getting here teaching job over the phone, then get your's to do the same to allow you to 'job hunt' when you get here

My wife managed to land work easily and has a provisional offer for a 12month contract in Sydney. I think it depends on how in demand/specialised your skills are. If you do general work that isnt particularly specialised like general Management, Programming, Engineering etc then youre probably not going to get very far, certain types of work are said to be "in demand" but Id take that with a pinch of salt, its specialised stuff that'll really get you there.
Both my self and my Wife work in pretty specialised IT positions that are harder to fill.
