Default Gas heater servicing in a rental help!!

Ok, been in a 1970's rental for over 2 years and presume the wall heater was new when it was built. The agent can't tell me when it was previously serviced as the landlord moved agents 4 weeks into my lease. We're in Victoria.
Where do I stand in requesting the heater be serviced? I've googled and cannot find any legislation regarding it be done annually!!! ://

The real estate agent should have a contact number for a licenced plumber/gas-fitter (or whoever services gas heaters) If the heater has been there since the place was built, it is probably well overdue for inspection/service. In Qld the landlord/agent are responsible if it is a fixture prior to you taking up the lease and/or if you make a maintenance report prior to the regular agent inspection (put it on your next maintenance problem report-say that you are concerned with the safety).
If in doubt, contact Consumer Affairs Victoria http://www.consumer.vic.gov.au/housi...FYxcpQodRWQA7w

When we stayed in Melbourne couple of years ago, our studio heater had broken. I insisted the agent bring in a portable heater (X 2) until the main unit was restored.. Pls fight for your rights!
