Default The Gap - Brisbane

Hi,

Has anyone got any info or opinions of living in The Gap, Brisbane. Any info on schools, type of area, commute to CBD would be very useful.
We are undecided on where to settle when we arrive in Brisbane in early Sept but would like to narrow down some of the areas.

Cheers

Hi

Were heading to brisbane next year and I'm looking at where to settle too. Not sure where The Gap is though but someone else should be able to help you out.

Hi,

Couldn't help but notice your thread on 'The Gap' as we too are going to have a look at the suburb. We also arrive in early September (3rd). I've been looking at the area on realestate.com.au for some time now and the house prices don't seem too bad. Roy from PSS came to do the shipping estimate a while ago and after chatting for a while, he admitted that he had lived in Brisbane for forty years. I gave him a grilling on the suburbs I was considering - Bayside, Fig Tree Pocket, Kenmore, The Gap. I had read somewhere that these suburbs had good schools (FTP also has a Montessori school). He said that these suburbs were all nice but that the ones in the west are a lot hotter with more flies !! Also, The Gap apparently has a traffic problem as the Waterworks Road is only road in/out.
I'm sure people who already live over there would be able to enlighten us on this one.
Ourbrisbane.com.au has suburb overviews/introductions
Lynette.

Hi,
We are hoping to go to Brisbane next year in mid march and we are looking at either shailer park/springwood or the gold coast although the problem with the gold coast can be the amount of traveling time to get to work

I grew up in Ashgrove, the next suburb down from The Gap heading towards the City. I went to The Gap State High School - it's not a bad school for a state school. Majority of students there go onto Uni studies. I spent a lot of time at The Gap, as most of my friends lived there....

Commuter wise, Waterworks road has had a drastic overhall in the past 5 years - it once varied wildly from 2 lanes to 3 or 4 in places, causing total traffice chaos, but it has now been widened to 4 lanes from Nomanby 5-ways all the way to The Gap, where Settlement Road branches off - so commuter-wise it ain't half as bad as it once was. There are also fairly good bus services going into the City from The Gap, some which take a route along Waterworks Road, and others which go through Paddington to avoid some traffic.

I don't remember suffering too much from the heat in summer, but I grew up there, so it probably didn't bother me that much!

hope this helps a bit...
