fruitcake and customs
Hi guys, a while ago there was a thread about bringing fruit cake into Oz. Rather than drag up an old thread I thought I'd start a new one to let you all know that you can bring it in through Brisbane airport with no problems.
When we moved out here we left the top tier of our wedding cake with my mum as we'd heard loads of different stories on not getting it through customs, and I wasn't prepared to have our wedding cake destroyed.
Anyhow, a quick call to Brisbane customs to be told there was only a 10% chance of it being confiscated made our minds up. Our bro in law has just been to the UK on holiday so we got him to pick it up and bring it over for us. He declared it on the slip for entering Australia and at customs when asked if he had anything to declare, he declared it. Only to be told it was fine and they didn't want to look at it.
So for all of you wanting to fetch fruit cake in, go for it.
Bear in mind, it was in no professional packaging, just wrapped in bubble wrap in a large roses tin.
