Re: Fruit comparison

I try and buy in season fruit and veg here in the uk, buts its difficult when your only shops are the usual supermarkets...

the problem with supermarket fruit and veg is that it is waxed/coated to make it look nice and fresh and shiny......'aesthetically pleasing' is the term they use i think......and the buyers only use the best looking fruit and veg....doesnt necesarily mean its the best. and cos its all stacked nicely, we the consumers pay a high price for it.

if you want really fresh, local fruit and veg you should go to a farmers market arkon, or to your local farm shop. there you get odd shaped fruit and veg - but know its local and it tastes sooo good!!

good luck in your move back to the uk - are you heading north or south?

Those californian oranges are bloody tasty! I have to admit I really do prefer them to local ones because they are better quality.

Is it common over there for people to grow their own organic fruit and
veg.?

Thought it would be the ideal place for this :)

Lots of issues with bugs so think organic would be a more involved situation. Also most people too busy with work etc to grow their own. It's really people with a passion for this or retired that grow their own I would think.

They probably pick them earlier. In any case their is no need to be offensive. It's a well known fact that countries export their top quality produce/products, and californian oranges are jucier and sweeter in my opinon.

What are the oranges in Perth like? Are they juicy?

Why would you assume I'm in Perth for?

Ooops. Sorry, I don't know why I did that as I just assumed it was Perth before I looked at your profile details on the right.

Soz...

Shoplifting is a particularly irritating crime because its effects are immediately passed on to the consumer, as businesses are forced to raise their prices in order to recoup their losses.

In the UK, they use CCTV - to such an extent that British people are now the most CCTV-surveyed people in the entire world. There are 500,000 CCTV cameras in London alone (source.)

In Australia, they use bag searches (which are enforced at the shop's discretion) and store detectives.

In both countries, they scan your body and hand luggage before you board a plane.

IMHO it's six of one, half a dozen of the other - and it honestly doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Another load of Google irrelevance from Vash. In Oz, in major stores like Target, bags are routinely checked when you exit and often when you enter; the presumption must be the shopper is guilty until proven innocent.

Perhaps it's something to do with Oz's criminal past, but it really used to piss us off. Perhaps they could recover some of the lost profits by reducing the 400 plastic bags they use each time you go to the checkout.

As for searches, prior to boarding a plance - they're not exactly looking for a stolen packet of sweets now are they?!

As for CCTV, it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

And in-store cameras have been used in both countries for many years.

Ok no worries, but why Perth? That really does make me curious a bit. It might be popular but not everyone goes there lol :D

This guy "vash" is the aussie who defends his country come hell or high water but has flashed on every thread almost the fact he now has a UK passport, and may even live there till he dies now?

Sorry, just asking.

Obviously with me still in the UK I'm looking for info on Oz. I intend to go to Adelaide and was just wondering if you came from there that's all.

No need to get nasty
