Default Front office banking market

Hi. Any bankers out there who can share their thoughts please on the job market currently. I arrive in Melbourne in April, but flexible as to location and have spoken to a number of recruitment agents who are beginning to depress me with their market negativity!

I understand the big 4 Aussie banks are in cost cutting mode, particularly at mid / senior level, combining teams are removing layers of management.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Considering the ANZ have just cut about 1,000 jobs in Melbourne, I don't like your chances. Sorry. I assume you've checked out www.seek.com.au - anything else you can do?

I believe these were mainly in back office work.

Often when permanent employees are laid off, there is a "creep back" with contractors, so the OP may well be able to pick up a contract.
