When we went back for our second visit, they swiped them at Melbourne airport and all our details were on there.
We got them back in 2003 so don't know if anything has changed since then?

Hi All
we got F.F. card when we joined back in 2001 when we went to australia last year with the in-laws i got them to join the F.F programme i phoned qantas to ask about cards and they said they dont issue them for bronze members so you have to get millons of points to get a plastic card
however as marco said when you join on the net you do get a card you can print out and laminate nah thats going to far lol

We actually got a couple of free seats from qantas on our points (this is a revalation as the are famously hard to find! ) , basically only because they brought in a system where families can transfer points to each other so we just stuck everyones points in one account.
For a return trip to UK you need 128,000 points for an economy seat return, they advise not even bothering to look around xmas, school hols etc free seats are blacked out then, booking about a year in advance when the seats are allocated or doing a last minute check sometimes they allocate more seats if a flight is empty.
The seats we got are partly on Qantas, BA and JAL we had no choice on how we got there, we wanted to go via the states, no hope
but ended up with an exasperated booking lady finally realising we were determined coming up with seats via japan
The main downside of this is a 10 hour delay in japan will have to find a hotel and dont have a clue about japan! It costs you another 5000 points per ticket to book seats on the phone but the internet machine was hopeless kept telling us no seats and would not accept enquiry via other routes which you have to do to find tickets
Had to go into qantas last weekend in as they changed one flight , really nice qantas guy even let us look at the seating plan of the planes and choose our seats.

I got a plastic card while in the UK, but I did join about 5 years back, may be different now. We got enough points for two return trips to Melbourne last year from Brissie - paid for the honeymoon
- would take ages to get enough for the UK, but I already have enough again for another one person Melbourne trip.
