Frequent Fliers points - help needed!!!!

HELP!!!
Why are frequent flyer programs so confusing?
We want to fly to Oz as below -
BA from Glasgow to London Heathrow
Cathay from Heathrow to Hong Kong, then onto Sydney (same day)
Jetstar from Sydney to Mackay.
We have joined Qantas frequent flyers as these are all partner airlines to their program, and so we should be able to earn points with them on our flight (according to the website). But I cannot find anywhere on Qantas/Cathay/oneworldalliance any information as to
A - how you link your f/f program to the flights (does the travel agent do this for you?)
B - when you link your f/f program to the flights (do you have to do this before you pay for the ticket? We want to pay and confirm asap!)
C - If each person can get points for their flight, even if only one person pays for both flights
D - How many points we would earn for the flights
Can anyone help? Clearly we are f/f virgins here

Yes, they can just quote all your ff numbers

You can do this at time of booking
C - If each person can get points for their flight, even if only one person pays for both flights
If each person has a ff card and they're all flying, each one will get points
D - How many points we would earn for the flights
Can't help exactly here as we've not done your route, but we flew to Oz and back twice with Qantas and got 44,000 points EACH but then we did quite a bit of internal flights as well.
Remember to keep your boarding passes until the points appear on your statement.
Good luck!

Just checked:
MAN - LHR 125 points
LHR - SYD via Singapore 10,586 points
SYD - BNE 1,000 ponts
So you're looking at c. 11,700 for that one leg.
You'll also get more in Business or First Class.
We didn't join Qantas until after we got back from the first trip and had used our BA ff card instead. So I wrote to BA and asked them to 'release' the points, which they did, and Qantas gave us full credit.

I added our Qantas ones after the flights as I hadn't signed up to it when I booked the tickets. You can do it all online after the flights (just keep your boarding cards as proof).

Hey thanks all.
I find the Qantas website very frustrating - they tell you points earned but only for Qantas flights - admitting that you can earn for other flights but there is no info on calculations. I don't want to miss out on them as we will likely fly Qantas or Jetstar internally in Oz, so can benefit from it I hope!

Hand over your FF card at check in and they can do it then and there. Then keep all your boarding cards , check your balance online later and if the points aren't there, just mail the cards to Qantas.
Additional point for anyone flying with Qantas partners - join the FF club BEFORE you leave the UK, and its free. Join it here and it'll cost you $$$

Some of the cheaper discounted fares don't qualify for ff points on many airlines so you may not get any points.
