Yes! There's still a lot of crap on foxtel but it's soooooooo much better than only having 7,9 and 10.

We have foxtel and find it OK, not as good as Sky but certainly better than having just the normal channels. We don't have the full package, we skipped the movies and pay $75 per month. However when we moved house recently we did upgrade to the Foxtel iq, similar to Sky Plus. It costs an extra $15 per month on my package or $5 per month if you have the full package.

$100 for installation. Foxtel iq is where you can pause and rewind the tv and tape a couple of things at the same time. Very useful, means my old man can watch things like American Plopper and American Ploprod when I have gone to bed.

when we signed up we got installation free...plus a months worth of top package...but you can go through Telstra if you want instead of Foxtel...find out which company is doing the best deal!!! you will get something for free if you have them competing...although Oz is not as generous as UK ;)

Re: foxtel........???

The only difference is that it takes longer with satellite to get through all the programs. Once you've seen them all it's onto repeats ad infinitum!

NKSK version 2 Oct 11th 2006 6:01 pm

Re: foxtel........???

We get ours installed tomorrow.

$36.95 per month. No installation fee. After 3 months can keep at 36.95 or go up to $54 for the package which we get free for the first 3 months. 12 month contract.

I doubt it will be much good but it's worth it to get BBC and CNN news.

IQ is great consider getting it.

Also cost for an extra outlet (for the kids) is worth considering.
Not trying to sell it but if you have come from the UK and had Sky over there, Foxtel is a must.

Australian terrestrial TV is so full of your typical American crap that Foxtel is an absolute must :D :D

Re: foxtel........???

We had sky in the UK because we lived in Wales, received Welsh tv... and we're not Welsh! So, forced as we were to watch sky, or face another episode of Pobel-y-Cym (forgive my spelling) or a whole night in with S4C, we found ourselves restricted... yes, restricted to sky only. As Wol mentioned, after a while you think it's Ground Hog day.

So imagine my delight to move to Australia and discover not only free tv, but free tv in English!

Now I'm bombarded with NCIS or CSI or 'All New' something or other and our only salvation is the ABC and Midsommer Murders. What is it with Australia's devotion to American crime shows?

Funny thing is, my dad gets fox and when I visit him I get to watch all the programs he loves, which are the ones I saw more than two years ago in the UK on sky! :D

Paul.

Or see if you can haggle for a free second installation. Don't know what Foxtel are like but Austar were good in that regard.

its a bittorrent website. you can download tv shows. www.uknova.co.uk is the website. you will need some bittorrent software, I use azureus, google it and download. You will need broadband and it took me a while to fart around with it getting it right. I now get all the shows from "home" that I like.

sorry but foxtel is a load of shit and we will not be renewing our contract with them.
ps

if you go for foxtel MAKE them sign you up for a 6 month contract. OR they will sign you up for 2 years. they will try to tell you that you cant have it for 6 month but you can.

Cant help you with how much i costs .Different offers at different times .Sure there is a web site somewhere with costs .

A word of advice though . If going into a rental, see if is available. If its not available by cable ,will the owners allow a satellite to be fitted.

Just something we have come across.

we pay $124 per month for the full package which is all sports and movies plus 2 free box office a month

for this the kids have foxtel upsatirs and we have IQ downstairs

we can record they cannot, two boxes means that you can watch different things in different rooms
we wouldn't be without it, but we really miss sky

They have a TV guide on thier site http://www.foxtel.com.au/ but yes they still have adverts just not as many.

Think unlike UK if you stop your subscription you don't get any channels where in UK you still got sky news + CNN so worth having the box anyway.

Re: foxtel........???

I think it all depends on your TV habits. If you switch it on at 4pm and it remains on until 11pm and bedtime then I reckon that any TV package would drive you crazy with boredom.

For me I watch maybe an hour a night and I've lost count of the number of times that I collapse on the sofa ready for an hour of TV and I'm absolutely exasperated by the complete tripe which Australia free to air serves up.

So half an hour of SKY UK news and half an hour of Discover or Nat Geog. will do me nicely for my $36.95 a month!

So can you get Sky News (UK version)? I've checked the Foxtel website but can't see it in the channel line up.

I love it!!!
I went to uni in Cardiff and we had the same problem!! We used to watch Pobel-y-cwm for a laugh - it was a Welsh version of Neighbours wasn't it?
How much does S4C suck?!!!!? I'm sure even Welsh people hate it!
That really made me laugh, fantastic!!

Just had a look at UKnova and a bit confused. All I get is a list of ads for other websites that you then have to join to download TV programmes. So what is the point of UKnova, why not go direct to www.latestTVdownloads.com or TVCentral ? Do you not download from UKNova direct or is just a specialized search portal?

This is the one you want but the membership is limited to 25000. Just keep trying and eventually it will ask you to set-up an account as it did with me yesterday.
