Default Fossil shark tooth - can i take it?

I have a large fossil shark tooth that I love, can I take this to Oz with meIf its likely they'll take it off me if I put it in with the removals then should I take it in my suitcase, declare it and hope for the best?

Any advice would be really appreciated

i'm not too sure.

here's the link to the customs site listing prohibited and restricted goods.

it does say No fish and toothfish, but teeth from a fish i'm not too sure on.

http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page.cfm?u=4369

cliked on the fish one and it may be best not to take it just to avoid hassle.

Thanks for the link I'll keep searching, I'd hate to have to get rid of it, I do have some weird things! I was gutted enough about having to get rid of years of lovely shells that I've collected froma round the world boo!

click on the bitt hat says toothfish and it gives you a description.

I know how you feel about getting rid of stuff though.

Oh will have to get rid of all his old antique tools (YAY!) that are stuffed in the shed and we have just had to give away our samurai swords, so we are not happy at the moment.

A fossil isn't actually a shark tooth though is it - any biological material dissappeared, leaving a bit of rock shaped like a shark tooth - unless I'm totally wrong in how fossils are made?

think yer right , its rock .. sorta .. i think over millions of years the original item is completely replaced by the minerals and what remains is a rock-like copy of the original

I agree with your theory, but then I'm a woman so what would I know?

I brought a fossilized shark tooth over with me that I found on the beach at Wells Next the sea and no one batted an eyelid...

'Fraid so, odd as it may seem but the importation of goods that have been manufactured or grown in Australia is not wise.

Usually applies to fruit of any kind, most honey, shells and probably croc teeth.

Also when traveling across certain states (mainly into WA) you are asked not to import certain types of honey from other states and also, apparently, apples.

Odd, but I feel confident there are valid reasons why...............

We brought out quite a few fossils, Devils troenails etc etc. No problems, just got stung for a sand filled lizard...........$300!!! You should be fine, not as if it is riddled with termites, and if it is then they have been dead for thousands of years lol!!!!!
