Hi,
I got my SS PR to SA. I will be visiting to SA with my OH for first validation next month. We will not stay in SA for long, only for 3 days. We have not planned to settle in SA right now as we have jobs in our current place.
Can anyone guide me on to what formalities I need to do during my first validation. Do I need to open Bank Account, Tax File & Medicare? Since I donot have a job in SA and working oversea do i require to open the Tax File. Kindly suggest.

Hi Pollyana,
Than you for your reply. That sounds good tough. But do I need to register my oversea address to the South Australia Immigration Dept?

As Pollyana said...You get off the plane, go through the immigration queue, get a stamp on your passport. That is the extent of it. Nothing else to do.

Hi
You'll also get automatically registered for Medicare.
When we finally emigrated we waited about 10 days to go into Medicare and then the lady on the counter said - no worries you've been in the system for 3 years!
It was quite uneventful really, I had expected a fanfare welcome!

SA sounds a little boring.
In Victoria you get welcomed with champagne, bunting, party poppers and a silver trays of crudités.

When did you come? We didn't get that!
We just had to make sure that OH went through first seeing I wasn't allowed to enter Australia before him!

Ah so you arrived before 18th April 04 then? Or maybe they were just having a day off from welcoming yet another Pommie when I came through

Just remember that when you validate, the 12 month grace period for private health insurance starts! If you do not organise PH within 12 months, you will be hit for an additional levy depending on age.

...You jest!
