Foreign car seats
Hi,
We arrived from overseas a few weeks ago and have been using a car seat for my 18 month old which we bought in the US (we were living there) not long ago. It's a good one which is of course fully certified in the US and seems to have all the same fittings as the Australian ones, however we have just read that car seats must be approved in Australia to be legal here.
Before we go to the expense of replacing it, I wondered if anyone knew anything about this. Is there somewhere we can take the seat to get it checked and certified??
thanks!

This is the quoted number to check for more information on child restraints.
Australian Transport Safety Bureau
Information Line
Telephone: 1800 621 372
The government information on this does quote:
Warning
• Each child restraint must be correctly installed and it must have the Standards Australia mark.

Hope this is helpful - we did this one for our company, Gold Coast Smile. It details the companies on the Coast that deal with Car Seats, etc...

Re: Foreign car seats
We brought our car seat over from the UK. The only thing it`s missing is the rear child restraint (hooks onto the floor at the rear of the car from the top middle of the seat). You can get the adaptors to fit that restraint and make your seat compliant.
Get a Mitsubishi Delica and no-one will want to crash into you anyway. www.delicaclub.com .
