Default Flights to UK

Hi everyone

Does anyone know if you can book return flights with a budget carrier to say, Kuala Lumpar, AND return flights from Kuala Lumpar to London?

i.e. land in KL, get your luggage and then check in for return flights to London with different carrier. When arriving back in KL on return flight, get luggage and catch return flight with budget carrier to Aus

Cheers

Big Baz

Hi Bermuda Shorts

I just notice that the return flights online from KL to London are in Malaysian Ringit. Wasn't sure whether there was some restriction on booking these while in Perth using my Aussie credit card.

You sure can do that, friends of mine did it last year. The problem with KL is that the budget terminal is separate to the main terminal so factor extra time into your transfer.

The only risk is if your flight to KL is delayed you could miss your onward flight and the budget carrier will have no obligation to put you on another. As said, allow lots of time between flights

You'll also need Malaysian Ringgit to take the taxi/shuttle bus, the latter of which does not run 24 hours. Also, partly because of the reasons mentioned in the above paragraph, the budget terminal gets horrendously overcrowded. Be willing to sit on the floor or take a chair

Yup. I did it when I went to Europe in July. I found a great fare on SQ to Singapore so bought that then bought tickets separately on Finnair. It was cheap as, but I'll never fly long haul with a budget carrier again.

If your looking on AirAsia web site, you can change the currency from Ringit to $Aus.

Last year we did this route.
Perth - Kuala Lumpur one way ticket on Air Asia .
Kl - London - one way ticket on Malaysia Airways
London - Perth - one way on Singapore Airlines

We saved heaps as all the airlines where having sales at the time of booking.

Yes, we've just booked flights like this.
AirAsia to KL return and Lufthansa KL to Europe return - had to book the Lufthansa flights on their Malaysian website in Ringgit - was fine.
As others have said, make sure you have a good few hours up your sleeve for the transit between terminals and then checking in again

The budget terminal at KLIA has got to be one of the worst in the world

The new one opening this year looks very nice

That would be great. A few years back a mate flew KUL - LON - KUL in Air Asia's big seats - sure, it's not fancy business class but he said the comfort, both seated and lying flat, was fantastic. Cost him $2,400!

People do it all the time, no problem at all! As others have said, be mindful of transfer times as you'll probably need to transfer to a different terminal for your onward flight. Scouse and I got a cheapie return fare to Hong Kong, then flew to UK and return with Emirates on the A380 in business class - was thousands of dollars cheaper than getting Emirates direct from Perth.

+1! So true

I have a Qantas rtn to HKG in Premium Economy (have requested an upgrade to Business with points) and a Qatar rtn to Europe (Business) in April. Total cost was $3000 less than a Business return to Europe.

Flights out of Asia to Europe are good value - especially if you avoid London (high charges/taxes) to fly into/out of).

I use kayak.com and also sign up to a lot of carriers email lists to get all the specials.

Best of luck!
