Anyone have any good recommendations on who to fly with, or the best/cheapest place to get tickets? Thanks.

One flight is for a certain day but 4 are for anytime late December. I'll have a look anyway, just thought I'd ask in case there was a main company or website that most used.

Sign up for email alerts from Virgin and Qantas and get n there quick as soon as they announce cheap seats. Virgin sometimes does a Happy Hour type of thing, but you have to be quick of the mark for real cheapies.

Re: Flights - Melbourne to Brisbane
Over the past month we have paid 165 with jetstar, 65 with tiger ( they are fine BTW ) aside from a free coffee with V same as the others but terminal is a walk from main terminal in melb. 159 with Virgin.
Cheap seat are usually in advance however I did get son on cheap with short notice a few times with Tiger.
You will often see 89 99 specials but almost always book in advance.
Used to shuttle up and down to SC with tiger at $49 but those fares are hard to get now. ( airlines made a big loss, fares up )
Watch the end of december dates, school holidays and Xmas usually means very expensive, if you see a cheapie for then, GRAB it
If you want to search the lot at one time, use webjet, they give all times and fares for one day. However if you go ahead and book with them I think there is a fee.

Re: Flights - Melbourne to Brisbane
If by chance you are hiring a car up here the vast majority of flights from my experience are cheaper to/from Gold Coast rather than Brisbane. We live roughly between the 2 and fly much more frequently from Gold Coast these days because of the price difference. Gotta say flew Tiger month ago to Cairns and both flights on the dot, flew to Airlie Beach couple weeks ago both flights delayed 1/2 hour so some you win some you lose I guess No booking fees with skyscanner I believe

Thanks very much everyone for all that info. Much appreciated.
I am hiring a car actually bobby, so that's good to know. The husband was going to drive up from Melbourne, but with my two teen sons in the back I don't think it'd be long until one of them were thrown out somewhere rural. Lol

For someone travelling short distances, albeit on a regular basis, doesn't Qantas' min. miles guarantee come into play?
Could save up quite a few miles just by doing these short hops...
