I agree with biggy Yepoon area is nice, theres a place that you can head to north of Yepoon which has a big sort of spit & has great fishing - I cant remember what it was called but no doubt biggy will be able to tell you. It was on the road up past the resort.
Other than that what about Bundaberg area? There are some great fishing/camping spots between Bundaberg & 1770, Myra is close to Bundaberg & is at the mouth of a creek so you can fish on the beach or in a boat. The other side of the creek is 4WD beach & has some great fishing as well. Further up is Baffle Creek, once again fabulous fishing & well worth the trip but be warned its 4WD only. (Myra is 2WD to the campground) Or try further up around 1770 itself.
Or what about Hervey Bay area? Great boating area if you have one, or 4WD along the beach if you dont.
If you want to stay close to Brisbane, you could try North Stradboke where you can camp on the beach if you have a 4WD or use one of the camp grounds/caravan parks if you dont. Or South Stradbroke where you can camp at one of the designated camping grounds - 1 is next to a small resort (Tipplers) so its not really *roughing it*, 1 is further down the island & has showers/toilets but nothing else & one further up the island just has toilets. So you can choose your level of comforts . North Stradbroke is accessible by vehicular barge, so you can take your vehicle, however South Straddie is all National Park & has no vehicles, access is only by boat. There is a water taxi service which takes you to the resort or the campground next door regularly , however the other 2 camp grounds are accessible by private boat only.
Really depends on how far you want to go too, there are heaps of places right up & down the coast, you just need to decide.
Happy Fishing .

Will have a Landcruiser to tow it. Dont mind surf casting or boat fishing as long as I get to eat the fish :-)

Im not sure, but I think there is a boat ramp on the western side of North Straddie, you could put it in there & fish the bay rather than outside. Just dont let the kids swim in rainbow channel - dont want them to be shark bait :scared: .

Also the warning for young kids not to jump of the jetty is not for reasons of the depth more it attracts the white pointers. :scared:
