Perhaps the difference is the warm weather up here, I agree with Pete, get out there with real gear if you are a keen angler & catch some of the great stuff thats available. Its a bonus being able to take it home for dinner :)

Far better to go out to the reef and catch the really good eating :D

yer,, once went coral fishing, and caught 5 lovely coral trout all over 5lb.. when i took them back to cook, i had lots of interest from locals, it was as if i had caught the tastiest fish available in the sea..!! ... they did taste good, but the bbq run out of gas 1/2 way through and i ending up finishing it off in a frying pan with onions and mushrooms .. yummmmmmm.

As I said earlier in the thread, i would love to meet up with anyone for a fish. I don't enjoy it as much on my own (prefer to have someone to laugh at me when i catch nowt ;)), and although i go with the wife alot, and she enjoys it, i always seem to want to go more often that she would like :)

And its hardly a chore having to buy new gear now is it Itsasecret :D I love fishing shops, they are completely different over there, more like fishing superstores (well not quite, but they are huge compared to here). Last time I was out there, i dragged my wife and her mate around one....was in there for ages. They decided that it would be fun to try make me look a fool. They then proceded to have a lightsabre fight with some bright red kids fishing rods..... Women!! (no offence to any other ladies who read this Mrs DB... ;))

We catch them off of the reef at low tide at the inlaws beach shak, and they taste GREAT!
