Rachel can go to work if all else fails as she's gagging to, and she'll find work easily enoough if we can believe the agency that she spoke to.

Rachel is a patents administrater/legal secretary which is quite specailised loads in London but only 2 big firms in Melbourne who have no resource.

Plumber by trade in the UK but not here, so I'm just unskilled labour, but I'm 41 and don't want to go back to school, well not for plumbing anyway.

Rachel on the other hand is 28 and hates being at home with the kids and I don't blame her, otherwise I'd be at home and she'd be working.

Yes, we don't have a mortgage, we're buying for cash so obviously we'll be interested in any grant we are legally entitled to.

You are assuming quite alot - 1st that they have a mortgage and 2nd that they cannot afford to finance a $400,000 mortgage. Some people on this site earn good money and can afford to finance that size of debt and larger.

Nope, but some might say you are crazy to repeatedly, to the point of becoming embarrasing, divulge how much money you have and earn.

Give it a rest. We've got the 'Loadsamoney' character in our heads already. Yes, you have a very impressive wad . Nice to keep shoving it in everyones face.

Pity money can't buy class.

I know that you do have to stay put for a year but that's OK.
For the first time home owner's grant, there is no limit with regards to the cost of the home, i.e. you will get the $7,000.

But there is also another grant in WA called the Home Buyers Assistance Grant (HBAF). You need to meet various criteria to get that. One of the criteria is that the purchase price must not be more than $400,000. It's recently been increased to that, which is probably why it's been in the news. It's not the case It just has to be your FIRST house in Australia. (If you look at the website, it has all the details.)

Then my mistake - I could have sworn that was one of the questions on the form. Thanks for putting me right.
