Default First time buyer grant

Hi

Just needing some information on the first home buyers grant. We came over on a temporary visa but now have PR. In the deepest depths of my memory, I can remember someone saying that you could apply for the FTB grant if PR came through within 12 months of buying/building your house. Can't seem to find it now tho.

Any help would be appreciated.

You need to apply for the grant within 12 months of completion of construction or settlement of the home. So, if you got PR within the 12 months period and then also apply for the grant within the 12 months period you'll get it.

Thanks for the link but still cannot find what I am looking for.

We signed contracts for the build in December. Building commenced in February and is nearly finished. We were granted PR on 3/7/07.

LOL! Click on the link I gave you and scroll down until you come to the section about the 12 months.

Then put your claim in within 12 months of when you finish construction. (If it was me, I'd claim as soon as it's finished.)

I can't find anything about PR. We applied for the grant on 19th July once we got PR through (3/7/07). I have just had a letter back stating that we are not eligible as one of us didn't have PR when the original building contract was signed.

On the WA website it states that at the time of purchase one person has to have been either a PR or citizen.

Yes I have noticed that now they have sent the letter through but the settlement agent on the land and comments on here I read last year didn't reflect that so I just applied. Didn't know if there was an exception that I couldn't find.

Worse bit is (and I said I would never do it), we had banked on the money for bits on the house before completion and now I will have to do a juggling act.

Yes I was told the same thing by my real estate agent but my mortgage broker put me right early on. Hard isn't it because everything is so expensive. I am doing some renovations to my place at the moment and the cost of things is astounding.
