First Shipper been

First Shipper been
On Thursday we had our first shipper round, Crown
Relocations. I was impressed, especially as with them
it is the same company both ends. I have now received their
quote and just want a bit of feed back to see if its reasonable
or not.
Basically they have said that we need 1700 cu ft, sole use of a
40 ft container, they said it would take about 4-5 days to pack
up all the stuff, for this they would charge us £6,554 (plus
insurance on top). Is this high or is that about right for that
amount of stuff.
Also those of you that have used Crown, were they good, are
they worth the extra they charge (if they do charge more than
others). I know the cheapest price is not always the best
service, but I don't want to pay over the odds.
Thanks Karen.

Karen,
We just had John Mason do our packing prior to shipping from Kent to Brisbane. They charged £5300 for about 1400cu ft, sole use of 40 ft container, 3 days of packing. That is for door to door delivery (within 100 miles of Brisbane) and includes unpacking and removal of packing materials, but not insurance. The first day we had 4 packers then 3 for the other 2 days. Nothing to complain about so far! They used a 7.5 ton van to relay the stuff back to the container in Croydon - we had severe access problems down a country lane. Only thing they couldn't do themselves was to take out a double glazed window which had to be removed to get a settee out of one room. We had to get a glazier in for 15 minutes' work at an inflated price.
I was quite glad to see the back of everything. We still have things like computers and endless paperwork and excess clothes with us (in rented house) which we intend to airfreight just before we leave. We have been quoted about £5 per kilo for this.
Best of luck
Lesley

Thanks for your reply.
We have John Masons coming on Wednesday to quote, so
it will be interesting to see what they say.
Who do JM use the OZ end?
