First day at Aussie School

[QUOTE=moneypen20]I've got to look for work or I will not meet anyone
Haven't "worked" for 13 years and haven't stopping working at all during that time
Hmmm...that makes me wonder too. Been out of work for a decade
and I think the thought of "what should I do?" scares me off my feet too.
O well, consolation is, we're not alone. We'll get through somehow....
Cheers,
Hannah

Hi moneypen!
I know how you feel..my middle one started high school this morning. He was bricking it to say the least...bless. I did my best (& I think I pulled it off) 'oh you'll be FINE!!!!' but secretly I was kacking it for him. There's over 2100 kids at his school and it's MASSIVE! My eldest went back today too after nearly 9 weeks off. He's gone into year 11 & still uses a map to get about sometimes!
None of my middle one's close mates have gone to this high school so he's gonna have to make friends all over again!

Well both of mine came home quite happy (well, as happy as you can be having just been to school after a nine week break
) First born was quite positive especially about the negative stuff - you know, the huntsman hanging outside the girls loos, the new teacher who didn't know what she was talking about etc
Tiddler seemed happy enough, managed to get lost on her way back to class after lunch but asked - must have got that from her mother. Didn't like the cockroach she saw in the classroom.
Both going back tomorrow

My middle one came home today feeling good about high school. He's found some lads he knew at juniors and he's keen to back.....for the moment! No doubt the novelty will wear off given time!
Now just got my eldest to sort (grade 11). He came home today and told me he hasn't got all his subjects he wanted and he, along with at least another 100 or so kids have had to make on the spot decisions about what subjects they're going to take instead as their chosen ones 'clash'
I know for sure none of his did as we sorted them with the deputy principal ffs! I'm bloody annoyed that so many kids have had to make on the spot decisions about their futures just because the school have obviously buggered the timetables up!

I came away sobbing. I never did that, or even come close when they started school in the UK. For crying out loud what's the matter with me

thank God I'm not the only one. Took daughter to school today for first time since July 22nd when she finished reception class in the UK. She's gone into Year 1 and has been looking forward to it for ages. V. excited getting everything together and getting uniform on. Gradually got quieter in the car on the way there. Went into class ok but only stared wide eyed as we introduced ourselves to the teacher. By the time I left (we were encouraged to stay to settle them in - bad move. We could only leave her at the door to the classroom in the UK. much better.) she had tears rolling down her cheeks - no sobbing, just a scared face and tears. Needless to say, I got to the car and wailed most of the way home. Toddler son in the back thought I'd gone mad.
Checked with the teacher when we picked her up and, apart from being a bit quiet, she'd been absolutely fine all day.
I think for me it's guilt finally working its way out for taking her away from her friends in the UK. A couple of Aussie mates will soon sort it out.

Mine also started their first Ozzy school today. Before we arrived I had no idea how different school would be here in sunny Queensland..... the cool uniforms, having to buy all their stationery, their lunch boxes are like cool bags, and each night I have to remember to freeze their drinks!!!
Shouldn't have worried so much as already they think its so much better than school in the UK, the youngest aged 10 loved his first lesson in Japanese, and said he liked the way they write in scribble....so far very encouraging and they are all looking forward to going tomorrow.
Best wishes to you Paula(Can't Wait)....hope yours had a good first day, Peter now back in the UK .....2 or 3 degrees there today so very different to here!!!
See you when he gets back.

I'm a bit confused (not hard
) about Tuesday - it seems that they can go in in their sports kit, although she didn't but I think they must do a fair bit of sport every Tuesday - no doubt she will fill me in when she gets back.Year 8 and 9 have a swimming gala thing on Friday where they go to a local pool (her school doesn't have one) that also seems to be a regular occurrence.
