we've got nationwide visa credit and debit cards and both work fine using the credit option-using the PIN doesn't work with the debit card though.

[QUOTE=Luma
- When you draw cash at the ATM you need to select CREDIT for your debit card not cheque. My hubby did this and his card got rejected a couple times then I said I remembered reading on here that you must select CREDIT account.QUOTE]

Excellent post! Thanks for taking the time to write it.
When we first arrived we had a credit card and also a debit card. When we used the debit card for withdrawals we used the 'savings' option on the cash machine (the options are savings/cheque/credit). When using my credit card in a shop I use the 'credit' option. Now we have a cheque account I use the 'cheque' option when withdrawing money! Now I'm all confused again!!
You need a pin when using debit card in shops but not for credit cards, just push 'credit + ok' then they get you to sign the slip.

I'm still confused about whether the OP is talking about UK cards.

I understand where you are coming from, if its Aussie ones you are talking about. Cheque could be savings depending on the type of accont you have; and maybe, just maybe how they have wired up your card.

I select "Cheque", (although I do not have a chequebook) but most aussies select "Savings". (Not because I eavesdrop, but because most assistants often offer me "Savings" first hand).

If I am using our equity loan I select "Savings" as they have wired this account up to that option.

With my UK Barclays debit card I have to select credit at the ATM to withdraw money. I think it is because it is a visa card - but is only a debit card and not a credit card.
