There isn't an "Australian fire service". Each state maintains its own fire service - sometimes more than one for different areas within the state. In addition mineral extraction and mineral processing companies - there are some very large ones in Australia, some operating in very remote places - would have private fire/emergency services at their plants.

In general, once you have permanent residence you will have the same employment opportunities as a citizen (with some very limited exceptions). Being British would not count against you if you were applying for a job with an Australian fire service, whether private or public.

Well one of my mates came as a fireman with 15years service got knocked back in Victoria and WA before he gave up , a brit work mate apllied 8 times in WA passed all the tests every time and only got in because he took his case to a tribunal stating that he was being refused because he was a POM.
