Default Fire service

Hi,

Just wondered if anyone had moved from the Uk and decided to go into the fire service and how easy/difficult they found it. There seems to be quite a few requirements that they look for in applicants (which I think I should meet in pretty much all) but obviously me being from the UK the application procedure may be slightly different. Just wondered if anyone had gone through this already and if they could give me a bit of advice.

Cheers for the help!

Which State are you heading for? Can make a big difference.

In Melbourne most people volunteer with the CFA http://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/joining/index.htm there isn't much paid work through them though you would probably be best looking at SES http://www.ses.vic.gov.au/CA256AEA00...=Home~&2=~&3=~

There's even less paid positions with the SES, as they are an all volunteer organisation. I think he's after professional firefighting jobs.

My friends hubby is just doing his 13 weeks of training before he starts. He's a very fit bloke and I know it was hard work getting in and passing just the initial tests but he managed it. Not everyone passed. He also had to pass his truck license (paid out of his own pocket) before being accepted. Once he is has finished his paid training he will be working 2 jobs as I don't think the wage was good enough for them to live well on and I don't believe they offered full time positions just so many hours per week.

He's in WA

6500 applicants for 120 positions in the 2008 NSW Fire brigade recruitment campaign.

Previous experience counts for very little.

Go to

http://www.fire.nsw.gov.au/page.php?id=10

For a bit more info

Alternatively look at

http://www.airservicesaustralia.com/...ff/default.asp

They are recruiting now
