Default Filing Income Tax

Time soon for filing income tax. Below are 2 questions:

1) What about recently arrived migrants who are not earning an income yet, or whose income is below the $6000 tax threshold? Do they still have to submit tax forms?

2) What is the procedure for claiming GST?

Anyone, any ideas?

Thanks.

The $6,000 threshold is spread over the year, so if you have only been here for 6 months you get half of the threshold = $3,000

Have a look at this page ATO - Do I need to lodge a tax return

Are you registered for GST ? Self employed etc ? If not, then no GST can be reclaimed.
