Can somebody explain how this Karma works and what people mean when they send some?. Am I missing something here.

Thanks,

give some when you think someone has posted something worthy, good info, something funny, whatever....more blue boxes means they have a lot, more points means they can give more karma than someone without any.

And can this not turn into another Karma whoring thread?

Can I make a suggestion that any such threads are locked asap!
There seems to be a new one each day.
Not accusing the OP of such a thing.

If something was added to the FAQ section, there wouldn't be any need for the threads in the first place.

Just a thought.

It's been explained so many times though, and there's loads of explanations in site feedback already...so it wouldn't be hard to do a search and find out...

So maybe a sticky thread at the top of the forum, saying what karma is might be better then?

I seem to have hit something here, but hang on guys. I DID read the post rules thread and the FAQ stuff and the answer was not obvious.

All I did was ask a civilised question!

If this is meant to be such a known, then it should be obvious to see.

Brian.

Brian,

Don't worry mate - I had to ask the same thing when I first joined - then I realised the question is answered on a daily basis. It really isn't clear. I think GG's idea of a sticky thread is a great one.

No worries Brian. The karma function has been around a while. It is intended to be used to show appreciation for a worthwhile post. You accumulate karma and this shows in the blue boxes under your name. The more karma you have, the more your karma is worth to another person.

You are quite right, there is no info in the FAQs, but there are lots and lots of threads in just about every forum here discussing, asking for or criticising karma.
Sometimes it gets a little boring. I wasn't singling you out.
