Federal Republic of ASEAN
Well Not Quite but Oz is finally at the ASEAN table after years of knock back by Mahatir Mohammed. Remember the EUs predecessor was the EEC, a free trade ares. Will OZ end up up in a SEAU?

Australia stands to gain thousands of jobs if it can achieve a free trade deal with South-East Asian nations, Foreign Affairs Minister Alexander Downer says.
Mr Downer says the proposed talks for a free trade agreement (FTA) between Australia, New Zealand and the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) are a golden economic opportunity.
ASEAN economic ministers have invited prime ministers John Howard and Helen Clark to a leaders meeting in Laos in November to discuss starting talks for an FTA.
Australia and NZ have long sought to strike a trade deal with ASEAN which covers 10 countries including major trading partners Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines.
It has added importance as ASEAN is in talks for trade deals with both China and Japan. An agreement with Australia and NZ would go some way towards the creation of an East Asian trading bloc.
Mr Downer said a trade deal with ASEAN would link Australian businesses with a vibrant and growing market that would have long term benefits.
"If we could create a free trade agreement between Australia and over 500 million people in ASEAN ... it would be very good for jobs in Australia, it would be very good for two-way trade," he told ABC television.
"It would be very good for us as a country in terms of our long term engagement with our neighbours."
