That's the one, and very tasty they are too.

In the 'Should we live in Seaford?' thread (can't remember the exact title) also running there's a comment about the Thai restaurant in Seaford: that one gets my recommendation too.

There's a great Chinese along one of the alleyways off Chinatown in the CBD which I love going back to but I can't remember either it's name or it's address - not very helpful I know.

Bopha Devi in Yarraville (there's also one in Docklands apparently) I've never had Cambodian food before, but I'm a convert.

And the Curry Club on Bridge road in Richmond- some of the best curry I've ever had.

Had a friend of mine arrive here yesterday and today I took him to the LaTrobe reading room & to see Ned's armour. Also went to see the dome in the foyer of 333 Collins Street - it's an office building, you wouldn't guess it's got such an amazing dome inside. Likewise very impressive is inside the old gothic ANZ bank on Collins.

Juice & smoothie place on Elizabeth Street opposite the GPO called Tropicana juice bar. They do good sandwiches as well and have a nice happy attitude (plus the guy who runs it with his wife is British).

Great little cafe in the alley between Flinders Lane and Collins called Aix Cafe. Until midday they do a fantastic breakfast of omelette on toast with choice of fillings including a coffee for $7.50

The Espy is my favourite place to go and see bands - we'll have to arrange a night out there if anyone's up for it?

Hi, I am sorry this is about something different. I see you are in Mt. Martha.
We are just doing our 143 visa and looking to settle in Mornington or Mount Martha. Is Mount Martha good for oldies?

I took MrsB out to a French restaurant called France Soir on Toorak Rd (near the junction of Punt Rd) a few weeks ago. They cook fantastic steaks European style and serve up those super fine frites. The wine list is reputedly one of the best in Melbourne and the most expensive wine is $4200.

We were staying in a mate's apartment near those lanes, Jond. We emerged from the apartment right next to breakfasting punters.

And now she is expecting too - what a weekend!

Definitely on my to-do list, one of the newspaper supplements had an article on the owner last week.

Tried Mediterranean Wholesalers yesterday - authentically Italian, even down to the hours, only open 9-2 on Saturday and closed Sunday, so we missed out by 5 minutes.

If you are looking for a decent Chinese restaurant I would recommend South Yarra China House 37 Toorak Road (nr junction with Punt Rd). There is no MSG in the food so it tastes fantastic and the service is very attentive.

Getting away from the food direction this thread seems to be going in, my other recommendation at the weekend is Fawkner Park. You can just sit and watch an amateur game of cricket while the dog walkers scurry past.

Also, the view from the Eureka tower on a sunny day!

'The Local' Pub on Carlisle Street in St Kilda East, just near the St Kilda Town Hall. Really cool pub with an excellent selection of beers and good food, with an enclosed outside area.

'Jerrys' in Elwood, Really cool cafe on Barkley Street that does great breakfasts and good coffee, very friendly staff.

'Pelligreni's', on Bourke Street, City. Authentic 'Icon' Italian Coffee Shop that has stayed the same since the 50's when its opened (Literally) and even has the old italian mother in the kitchen cooking the lasagne, not tried it yet but reckon it looks good.

Berkly Street, Footscray, I was overwhelmed by the cheap and excellent Viatnemese food in Victoria Street, Richmond, but this is just as good if not better, loads of cheap vietnamese food along here and very cheap, and also to add in a few African restaurants, namely etheopian, which was fantastic, even served authentic etheopian beer, well worth a try!

Brighton Sea Baths Cafe
, still think its a great place for a few drinks and good food, very friendly staff and fantastic views of the City Skyline, also nice to have a stroll along the Marina!

To many places to mention in Melbourne you go go on for a lifetime! Thats why its such a great diverse place to live.. Somthing for all tastes, No Wonder Gordon Ramsey decided to choose Melbourne to open his restaurant!

France Soir is nice but don't go expecting anything better than the food served in some of the better motorway services in France. They can't even do my favourite dessert Illes Flottante properly. And it is not cheap but then again if you can't get to France guess it has to suffice.

Mediterrean Wholesalers is def worth a trip - we go every few months and stock up

Just don't go in and ask for a "Latte" because you will get exactly that - a glass of warm milk.

Any specific recommendations for Ethiopian restaurants? - have this on the list to do.

I liked the way the owner spoke to us and treated us in what reminded me of continental Europe. Also by ordering in French to a French-speaking waiter I was able to get the steak cooked how I like it. The other streak cooked perfectly was in a place in South Melbourne near King's Way.

Yes in French-speaking countries like Luxembourg - certainly food like this is offered in cafes for lunch. But I like that food, the ambience and am prepared to pay for it.
